Why Levitating Headphone Stands Fascinate Me

To me, levitating headphone stands have the same wow factor as the iPhone did with its touchscreen.

Before I discovered levitating headphone stands, all I could think to do was put my headphones in a drawer or on a plastic stand. But that went against the very reasons I'd chosen them.

I'd put so much thought into their looks and performance. I already can't see them when I'm wearing them. If I can't show them off and enjoy looking at them after I take them off either, what a waste of all that enthusiasm.

Bringing a Still Space to Life

For an enthusiast like me, a levitating headphone stand was a godsend.

Seeing my headphones floating and turning catches my eye the moment I walk into the room. Think about it: in a space where everything sits still, there's suddenly something striking that seems almost alive. There's a Chinese expression for it: bringing movement and stillness together.

It draws attention to both the headphones and the stand, while making the whole space feel more lively and interesting. Beacon 01 is like a beacon in that room.

The clean white and black finishes pair beautifully with the high-end headphones I've so carefully chosen. With its clean white or black finish, the stand fits perfectly into either a minimalist room or a high-tech setup.

The Strengths and the Trade-Offs

Compared with a conventional headphone stand, it has a larger footprint. You also need to leave enough clearance for the headphones to rotate.

But it has something that genuinely fascinates me: real magnetic levitation. The headphones really float. No tricks.

At Dockix, we've made specific design changes for headphone use. Some headbands can't be picked up by a magnet, and we also wanted to avoid a magnet pressing directly against a small area of leather. To address those issues, we designed a support cradle inspired by the way a conventional headphone stand supports the headband.

What If the Power Goes Out?

Then there's the question the vast majority of users worry about: what if the power goes out?

We've built in power-loss protection. When the stand is set up and used correctly, there's no need to worry about your headphones falling during a power outage.

That protection does mean you need to position the magnet correctly. Don't place it directly underneath the headband. When the power goes out, the magnet snaps upward, and putting it beneath the headband could damage the leather. Repeated impacts could scuff the headband or even damage its structure.

Bringing Beacon 01 to life is the best investment I've made in my own happiness.
